As a labor and delivery nurse, Sarah McMoyler saw couple after couple arrive in the delivery room unprepared: moms were not coping with pain, partners were clueless about how to help, and neither was able to communicate and make decisions effectively with the healthcare team. She knew that something needed to change; expectant parents needed more reality based childbirth preparation. Hence…McMoyler Method was born!

In 1993, Sarah began teaching classes in San Francisco promising “Childbirth Preparation for the 21st Century.” Her method has since become renowned throughout the Bay Area, with more than 20,000 graduates singing her praises.

McMoyler Method picks up this century where Lamaze and Bradley left off last century. This updated approach offers accurate information, derived from current medical practice, to provide women in labor with pain management options and to engage partners to participate fully in this life-changing event. McMoyler’s class provides expectant parents with flexible tools, techniques and perspectives required to approach labor and delivery with increased confidence and knowledge. Key tenets of McMoyler Method:

  • Realistic – Only the stork knows for sure how your labor will evolve! Expectant parents should be prepared for anything from a natural delivery to a high tech birth.
  • Nonjudgmental – This is not a contest: you don’t get points for how you deliver. The goal is healthy mom, healthy baby…however you get there.
  • Entertaining – education that is engaging and dynamic provides the springboard for interactive and meaningful preparation.
