Parents Loving…

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Have you met Baby Elliot? Go to www.youtube.com and look for 99 balloons. This is the beautiful and touching story of Baby Elliot, a medical miracle whose prenatal diagnosis was deemed “incompatible with life.” His parents chose to believe and have faith and when he was born at 6 pounds, they chose to literally celebrate every day of his life.

99 days and 3000 photos later, Baby Elliot left planet earth.

The story of his short stay is such an important reminder to love what we have, to rise to the occasion and do everything we can with the challenges we are presented. Blessings on his parents and many thanks for inspiring the world…

Newest Baby….

Welcome to the world Baby Declan! My nephew Brian and the lovely Tashia attended McMoyler Method classes a few short months ago and gave birth to their darling little boy just over a week ago…their excitement and delight is palpable through the phone lines and the photos are dizzyingly adorable…there is nothing like a new baby in the family. =)

SUPERMOM SYNDROME

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Yesterday Oprah had a mom, a good mom, on her show who accidentally left her toddler in the car - all day – it was 100 degrees that day. The outcome, of course, was tragic. (Unfortunately, a year ago, there was a very similar ‘baby left in car’ tragedy in my hometown of Benicia…)

Why feature this on national television? As a wake-up call: mom’s today are existing in a state of overwhelm, in this case, leading to disaster. Oprah had several important points:

  • This little toddler is now an angel to the world-alerting all drivers that you must pay attention to who, where and what, in order to prevent the unthinkable
  • SLOW DOWN, not the speed that you are driving, rather in focus and attention
  • Husbands are key. They must be involved in offloading mom’s who are trying to do it all, who are, frankly, at risk for losing their minds in the process

Oprah doesn’t know it, but McMoyler Method has been teaching these 3 points to expectant parents for years. ‘Husband as essential to the process’ both at the hospital and at home is our underlying tenet…We are committed to opening their eyes wide, bursting a few bubbles along the way, alerting them to the predictable overwhelm that is waiting; and how husbands can make a difference.

The next DVD project in line for my partners and I to produce is on Newborn Care and Safety. It is crucial that expectant parents receive this information before their babies are born. Good intentions to learn CPR etc. go out the window once the babies arrive home!
